Default Wires connecting to Blower Motor Control Module (J126)

I have a 1999 A6 Quattro 2.8L. Does anyone have information on where the other end of the 3 wires that plug into the Blower Motor Control Module (J126), aka blower resistor, lead to? One of my wires gets very hot and has burned out 3 of these modules, melted a connector, and after replacing a portion of the wire, has melted the entire wire nut that connects the new wire! I need to find the source and cause of this problem so it doesn't cause a fire someday. Maybe replacing the entire wire may work, but there could be more to the issue. I don't believe it always heats up because last year when I changed the module and a portion of the wire, I left the glove box off for a week or so to see if the wire still got hot, it didn't. So something is causing it to heat up at certain times.
