Won't quite stay running - P0117 - Help!
Hi,
I have a 2000 A6, 2.7T - The car has been perfect till now, but the other day I got a P0117 code. Which was a bit odd because the temp gauge seemed to work just fine. In fact I could find nothing wrong other than the code itself. But I ordered the temp sensor, it's cheap and easy to replace, planning to do so next weekend.
A couple of days later I noticed that the car would idle shallow when cold, like at 600 RPM, and it felt like it was about to stall. Concerning but I let it be figuring that perhaps it is related to the above code in some way. Driving it it would hesitate just a bit coming from a dead stop, but only while it was still cold. Once the car was warm, no problem at all. No problem at all once the car was moving at higher RPMs.
Then today, which is another day later, I get in the car, its cold, I try to start it, the car will now turn over, and kinda starts but never reaches idle RPM, and then dies. Cannot not get it to stay running. It is clearly getting some gas, it is clearly getting spark, I assume its getting air, but it might be choking.
Still only getting the P0117 code but I find it hard to believe that such a code is preventing the car from running, UNLESS, that signal is somehow tripping the computer and that is what is causing the car to die. It does feel like a computer signal problem.
Thoughts on this one anyone? What else to look for?
Thanks!,
Eric
