Default 2007 A8 TPMS Control unit problem / replacement

Hi everyone,

I will describe the problem I have:

2007 A8

For the last 3 months I have been getting intermittent TPMS errors on the instrument panel (not low pressure alerts) about a system malfunction.

This would come and go occasionally. Last week, I got a low pressure alert that was false, and then the same TPMS fault and now it wont go away, its there the entire time the car is running.

I have tried resetting the pressures but it doesnt work. All 5 wheels show up as blank (no reading) now on the MMI screen.

I am assuming the control unit is dead\dying since it doesnt seem related to any specific wheel.

I am considering replacing it. The part number is 4E0910273A.

Questions, then:

Is there a way for me to verify 100% the unit needs replacement?

Any way I can 'reset' it or try to get it working again without replacement?

If I do have to replace it, this unit lives above the left rear wheel bay, correct? Is this something I can replace on my own without much trouble or can this become an electrical nightmare for me?

If its a job I can in fact do, can anyone give me some instructions on how I should do this correctly?

it might not be the TPMS unit but rather the batteries in the sensors in the wheels are dead or dying.

Do you have access to a VCDS? Run an auto-scan and post the results...

I just turned mine off when the batteries died.

What is VCDS?

Also, the system started to work again, but I continue to get malfunctions. As of now, its an intermittent problem.

If its a battery, wouldnt 1 wheel not report? I am getting blanks on all 5.

You'll need a VCDS to diagnose...most members are willing to lend you a hand in using theirs. Just have to find someone local and willing.

I reinstalled the TPMS control module in my 2006 Audi A8 but all I get is the yellow flat tire and blanks on all 5 wheels. It was working perfectly before I removed it from the car. Here is the VCDS results for the TPMS:

The coding appears to be correct. Do I need an access code to reset it?

Let me know how it goes! I am in a similar situation
Recode Tire Pressure Monitoring Control Module (J502).

If Tire Pressure Monitoring Control Module (J502 ) is replaced, new control module must be coded. To do this, proceed as follows.

  • Connect the Vehicle Diagnosis, Testing, and Information System (VAS 5051A) and select the function test using " Functions/Component selection".
Then

  • "Chassis"
  • "Tire Pressure Monitoring System"
  • "01- On Board Diagnostic (OBD) capable systems"
  • "J502 - Tire Pressure Monitoring Control Module"
  • "Tire Pressure Monitoring functions"
  • "J502 - Code control module"
