The A/C of my A8died on me (with smoke coming out of the centre vent) while driving the other day. Do anyone have an idea of how serious this is? Do I need to replace the complete a/c unit, or could it be a minor repair? Before packing up, I do recall it making a noise (somewhere in the engine compartment)when the a/c was switch on, and now there's no noise, although all the lights on the a/c console seems to be working fine. The smoky air which comes out of the vents has a electrical burning smell to it.

 

im sure there is a post somewhere on how to extract codes from the A/C

 

Had a similar thing happen o nanother car, it was the compressor as the oil "dissappeared" and the motor seized. Not sure how difficult a job it is.
