I scanned it and got cam sensor fault and cat converter fault. I'm hoping the cam sensor is causing the cat fault do to dumping of fuel when it fails. My wonderful A8 has been nickle and diming me to death recently. Audi nickles are huge. Replacing the cam sensor but it does seem odd that I replaced the alt and now this. Hope it works, 3 day wait for part. Thanks to all of you for the help, people on this site are great! I'll let you know the outcome.

 

No , the vag com will not tell you if the fuel pump is bad but if you know how to use it you can do fuel pump activations which would help in diagnosing.

 

The cam sensor could be why your car is cutting out. It will NOT cause cat efficiency faults though.
