I was wondering if the W12 version of the A8 is really worth the extra 40K? And is the excelleration descent on just the normal A8, do you really need the the V12 to get great excelleration. Also do you get anything else besides a better engine in the W12.

 

Lets face it, you're probably not gonna buy either one anytime soon, so a discussion about whether going for a W12 is "worth it" will be about as unproductive, subjective, and pointless as your earlier thread about whether its "worth it" to get a $6.7K Bose upgrade on the A8. If you really ARE contemplating either, you probably could get all your answers faster from Google

My recommendation: join the Mercedes forum at www.mbworld.org and start a thread in the Maybach section asking whether its "worth it" to get a Maybach 62 over a Maybach 57 - they love threads like that there, and its a lot more livelier than the A8 section of this forum.

Now, as to your question: IMHO the A8L W12 is not worth it at all, unless you live in Germany or Russia where you can actually exercise all that power.

Ehehehe, the forum's been inundated with posts like this one for the past few months, so 9 times out of 10 I just skip it, but I do check the forum several times a week.

Nothing new with me really, A8 still alive, contrary to expectations. 76K on her now. For some reason the transmission behaves more intuitively than usual when its cold out, like now when its 25 degrees. I suspect the torque converter must be susceptible to temp changes. Either that, or it has seen the error of its ways, and decided to like me after all.

 

I think they are awesome though I cant compare it with my new acquisition ( no name mentioned)

 

oh and yes its worth it if you have the cash

 

agreed its all about where you live and personal monies. If you have it to blow than blow if not find a good used a8l and love it

 

Meh... Get a Phaeton. The '04's are currently selling in the mid-$40's. Same engine, same engineers, different price, differnt look.

 

Hans, for your info i do have the $$ and i am seriously considering buying an A8, i don't want to spend a lot of extra money on pointless options and upgrades. And if you think this thread is "unproductive, subjective, and pointless" then DON"T POST A REPLY. For the rest of the people whose replies were helpful, thanks!!!
