Default About to purchase an audi, need quick advice

Hello all, newbie here... My last audi was a 5000S way back in the day, and I have come across a 2000 A8 L w/ 150k

I am going to be looking at it in a few hours along with my mechanic, and need to know if their is anything in particular I need to look for

The owner is selling it to me for 5k and it just needs breaks as it has the pad warning on the dash

Car is loaded, HID's, Navi, etc

Any advice, or should I stay away?

Good list of things to look for can be found here audipages Used A8 Buyer's Guide

If the mechanic has VCDS (VAG-COM) have him/her scan the car to see if there are any DTC's stored.

Thanks for the list, but now I'm kinda thinking no, as I cannot find any records of the timing chain/belt being replaced...

Is their any way to know for sure?

If it was done by a dealer they can look it up by VIN #.

Otherwise.... well.... it's a crapshoot depending on the honesty of the seller.

Ran the carfax and no service records... so unless the Mechanic is able to check the belt I am going to pass

You'd have to pull the front of the motor apart to look at the belt and I'm not sure if you could tell it was done or not.

If your gut says pass, go with that.

They are great vehicles though - so keep looking

Mechanic checked and said it looks like the timing belt was done less then a year ago, along with the water pump...
I did smell some oil burning when I turned the heat on, so I sent it back and he is going to check that out

The price has now dropped to 4500.00 BUT not sure yet LOL

132k, timing done at 117k
all service records up to date..... GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR
