Default Interior trunk lights don't turn on..

My trunk lights (inside trunk) don't light up. The bulbs are fine, and when I ''open/close'' the catch with a screwdriver I hear a click (relay kind of sound) from the vacuum pump.. Is the vacuum pump the main brain for the interior lights? Or else.. ?

It's a 1997... and the wiring for the cd changer/telephone/antenna and everything in that area is really messy (cut wires, taped ones, etc.. ) so i'd like to clean it up.

The trunk lights don't turn on (but I hear a relay-type of click in the vacuum pump when I lock/unlock the trunk catch.. so the signal gets there I guess.)

My rear door contact switches seem to be acting up also (sometimes work, sometimes don't..), but may be the same problem as the trunk or simply bad contact switches in the door catches..

fixed! replaced the vacuum pump with another used one and the lights work perfectly now.
