Default Looking to upgrade

Hello all, I'm new to the Audi forum and curious what the brand has to offer. I'm currently a BMW owner, I have a 2000 540i that I'm growing a bit tired of. I really enjoy european cars, and that car does so many things well, but the maintenance costs have been astronomical, and I'd like to explore other options. In the year that I've owned the BMW, I have put perhaps 3,000 miles on it, but I've replaced a long list of things. The car has 160,000 miles, but in my brief ownership I have replaced thrust arms, water-cooled alternator, rebuilt transmission, had abs module rebuilt, replaced 2 wheel speed sensors, spark plugs, air filter, cam chain tensioner, and front rotors. There's more that I can't remember. This car was babied by the previous owner with extensive maintenance records. Now I love european luxury performance cars and understand the increased maintenance, but I find this to be a bit excessive. I'm an avid DIYer and did every bit of the maintenance myself, including removing and rebuilding the transmission by hand. Maintenance doesn't scare me, but I'd rather not dump a fortune into parts or things that I can't do. I'm very curious about what Audi has to offer, I love the styling. The D3 audi A8 particularly interests me, I love all the toys and options like adjustable dampers, air suspension, and all the luxury goodies, and I also value performance. It seems like the A8 does it all. Does the car need to have MMI to have the options like dynamic, comfort, etc? When did they get that? I'm looking for something enjoyable with luxury, performance, and styling, that will be decently reliable (hopefully never leave me stranded), and perhaps deliver decent economy. I get 18 city and 28 highway, which I'm happy with. I don't want to go too much lower than that though. In the next couple months I'm planning on scraping together around $12k for something new, and I've seen several nice 2006 A8s, along with A4 and A6 models. How are the various models as far as reliability around the 100k mile mark?
