New 2012 A8L - horrible creaking and rattling noise...help?
#21
Back from the dealer.
All seems to be good! I don't THINK i heard any noise but let me review for a few more days and will revert back to you.
Folks - otherwise, its a terrific car...fast as hell, smooth, (too smooth? driving 85mph feels like 45mph)...
I really like it!
Wonder if it needs the 20s though... the 19s look small...

Hi - I too had had noise/rattle issues with my 2011 A8L -
The majority has been fixed - they performed a service note on the glove compartment and 75% of the noises are now gone - they are still a few noises (mainly from passager seat when nobody is in it and also sometime when the side rear shades are up). On my 5000 mile service, they tightened the passenger seat bolts and it seems that most is now gone. Or at least whatever remains only happens on very uneven roads and is much more rare. I can deal with this! Please note that I traded in a 2011 Jaguar XJL for the Audi A8 because the XJL was full of noises and after almost a year of back and forth they coudl not fix them - my 2011 A8 has some noises but nothing close to the Jaguar.
But, this said, I am started to get convinced that the more sun roofs and the more glass you put in the roof, the weaker the body and the more torque and the more noise you get. I used to have a 2006 Audi A8 and I had pretty no noise issues in that car...
Please try to get your dealer to get teh globe box and see if there is a service note for your model #.
Good luck

Bad rattles 2011 audi a8
After 6 return visits the major rattle has been fixed with the replacement of the suspension tower however this morning the heating is now not working. My 2011 A8 spends most of its time on its own persoanl hoist.
It's also had a new radio and many more probelms which i've stpped recording.
It shouldn't happen at the price that I paid.

I too have a 2012 A8L with rattles and squeaks. The dealer has had it for two weeks and it is due to be returned tonight. The car has a creak in the right front door hinge area plus some other rattles in the rear door area. The dealer reported thet drove a new A8 in inventory as a comparison and it too had the same squeak. I expect there will be a memo from Audi to fix this.
We love the car, other than the rattles. The dealer and the service people have a problem accepting that a car of this caliber should be rattle free. Our 2005 A8L was silent through 95,000 miles.
I also have a 2010 S5 coupe. It also has rattles and the engine has a hesitation that has baffled the techs. No code, no clue what to do.

I'm sorry to hear that brand new A8's are acting up this way. I was considering buying one myself, but now I don't know if I should wait a couple of years for Audi to resolve the rattling issues.
Just curious, people who've had their 2004-2006 A8's that have close to or over 100,000 on them - how much maintenance have you had to do so far? Is it true that brand new A8's will last 100k without any problems, just oil changes?
Thanks

I recently met yet another 2012 A8L owner in Manhattan with severe problems. Here is my corroborating witness to the issues which you can also print and share with the dealers. I'm very concerned that the dealers are being pressured to cover up rather than resolve the issues or even call a lemon a lemon.

I think the rattle was fixed. However, the check tranny light came on - a module was changed and light's gone. We shall see if it comes back. Will keep you/everyone posted!
