Default Tire recomendation

I am looking at replacing the tires on our new to us 2007 A8L, currently has Pirrelli P6 and the left front has a lot of wear plus the tires are very noisy (had those same ones on our A6) and found the noise issue as well. Car tracks very well so I do not think its a alignment problem.

I am wondering what other brands you guys/gals are running, I love Michelin but not sure if they are in the budget ($1400-$1700) for the 19" I have had Continental contacts before on Mercedes and liked them but what about Dunlop, Toyo, Falken, Continentals. Don't like Goodyears, Pirrelli, Bridgestone.

So I am looking for some input to try and decide what to get.

Thanks, Mark

I have the General Altimax HP on my Buick Park Ave Ultra, like them a lot especially great in the wet. I have had 4 H rated and 2 V rated (tires not sets) and honestly get the V rated, they do wear faster, but they needed almost no weights to balance and on one, none. Very high rated tire at TireRack by the people who have used them.

I can't complain at all except the second pair of H rated have some issue in one tire that balancing isn't taking care of, but it still has a vibration. I will stick with these tires, but V rated only now. I had them nearly completely bald and they still did admirable in the rain over most any tire I have had that I got that low on tread. I was really surprised.

I do wish the sidewall was stiffer, but most people won't want the sidewalls stiff. They corner well and are pretty quiet tires.

I have Altimax HPs on my 01 A8, not sure of the speed rating, but they've done around 50k through 2 Wisconsin Winters and still have about 50% tread left. They're very smooth and quiet, great in the wet, and very good in the snow. I paid around $150 a piece for them. I have no problem paying out money for good tires and have paid a lot more for others, especially since I drive 60 miles each way to work and half the year through snow, and I would buy these tires again.

After looking a long time and even trying Yokohama S-Drive, I finally came to the conclusion that the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S plus are the best tires for the money. They have a 36000 miles factory warranty on them, they have been extremely quiet and handling almost perfect. I bought them at discount tire, they will match any price for you.

Good luck,
