TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS LEGAL ACTION AGAINST AUDI

RE: TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS LEGAL ACTION AGAINST AUDI
Here's the post from audilvr on Audiworld. he had his rebuilt there. It was cheap but I think he had some other problems with it later on and they swapped out the valve body again. i think they raised the price to around $2800 but I don't know for sure.
Personally, I think, if you have just some hunting and thumping, change the valve body. $600-$700 for a rebuilt one and 2-3 hours of labor. See if that helps.
If you lose reverse, then it's 10-12 hours of labor to change a $50 part and you might as well replace the torque converter and rebuild your clutch packs and replace the seals. My buddy, PaulW just did this. It still hunts and thumps but at least he has reverse.
Good luck and let us know how it turns out. Here's audilvr's post:
Well,
The jury is finally in, with real-world testing to follow. $2200 including valve body rework, all new clutches and torque converter, and new pump bearing (it was howling).
1) No hunting
2) Shifts smoothly
3) No thumping, especially noticeable at stopping.
4) Accellerates better (not sure why)
5) downshifts much quicker without hourglass delay
6) Free use of loaner car (you get what you pay for)
7)Had to go back for thump at stop-- they fixed it with valve body rework.
Now-- the recommendation:
King Transmission
Elmhurst Illinois
630-832-6800-- Frank, Tony, John
Cheap date, complete job, stood behind their work, know how to work on Audi A8 transmissions, and they don't price it like it's something special.
