Default Trunk Open Dash Warning Light Stays On

On my 2002 A8 the trunk open dash warning light stays on even when the trunk is closed. At the same time I noticed the trunk lights don't come on anymore either. Where should I begin?

Wiring in the trunk. Dont know exactly how its ran on your car, but on mine it comes from the right and cuts across the trunk lid and past the latch. At the latch it tends to rub and chaff. Since the trunk switch and lights dont work, I'd suspect the ground.

Hey,

I had the same problem on my 2002 A8. There is a switch in the trunk that turns on the lights and turns off the dash indicator. I had to take the hook off on the truck LID. This is very easy, once you geet the switch out, you have to bend the metal clip to allow better contact. I did it about two months ago and have had the problem once or twice. Once this is fixed, the indicator goes off when the trunk is closed and the lights come one when it is open. Also allows the alarm to set properly.

Thumbs up

you probably need a new trunk latch. the latch contains a micro switch that is triped by a plastic lever which turns the trunk lights on and your trunk open warning off. This plastic lever gets broken and will no longer operate the switch. Hope this helps.
