Question 2007 Q7 Vibrating Steering Wheel

Hi there,
I am new to the boards, but have been researching my problem on here and figured I would just ask for some opinions. Sorry for the long post, but want to give the background story.

6 days ago I purchased a used 2007 Q7 3.6 from my Northern California Audi dealership, I have purchased 2 other Audis from them in the past few years. It has a little over 50,000 miles, and no warranty at this time. I am currently working on getting an extended warranty through my credit union because it is much less expensive than what the dealership was offering.

I have already had a problem with the bluetooth and nav, which the dealer fixed at no charge because it was happening the day we took home the car.

I picked up the car yesterday, after the bluetooth/nav fix, and on the way home noticed that the steering wheel would vibrate at freeway speeds (approx. 60-70mph), it did not do this in the first few days after the purchase. It has 20" premium Audi wheels with new tires from the dealership.

Just wondering if anyone knows what it could be, some posts are mentioning a control arm problem on Q7s. Was this a recall that could be covered by my dealership? How much does this cost? Is it likely safe to drive like this for now?

Looking for ideas and suggestions about how to deal with the problem with the least amount of money out of pocket. I love the car, except for this problem.

Thanks for any help!!

Katie

Hi the first thing that you need to do is have the tires balanced and at the same time check if there are any bent rims. How does the car run when it is cold first start up and normal driving?

Default thanks!

Thanks for the info, I will take it in soon, so far it doesn't seem as bad, or I have gotten used to it. Everything is perfect when I start up the car cold and during normal driving, only high speed freeway driving makes the wheel vibrate a little.

dealership did not do high speed, road force, balance when they changed the tires. you have to request it. that is my guess. sounds like a nice truck.

Not sure if you are still on here, but I just bought a used 2007 and am curious how you are enjoying yours. I'm feeling like there are some design flaws (like the ridiculous MMI system, noisy rear seats, hard as a rock suspension, and conically squeaky barkes). Anything like this in your experience?

Audigirl1179: You have purchased a used Audi q7 which ran over 50000 miles so its better if the brake pads are changed and regarding brake pads you can talk to some local dealers or go for online purchase on eBay......
