Audi Q7 Blower motor runs for a while, slows with a buzzing whining noise

I have 2008 Audi Q7. The blower motor has seems to work fine for 30 secs or so and then slows accompanied with a buzzing whining noise which seems to come from the center of the dash rather than the blower motor. After a few more seconds both the blower and the noise stops.

Wondering if the blower motor resistor at fault here? Seems unlikely that the resistor would make the noise?
