q7 tdi fuel economy
I've had my eye on the q5 for a while especially since the reviewers are saying that 31 mpg can easily be exceeded on highway driving. I was wondering if any q7 tdi owners have noticed how their mpg is going. It potentially might be a deal breaker. Audi lists the highway mpg at 28 whereas the q5 highway is 31. I realize this is a larger vehicle than the 5, but just would like to know what real world tests have revealed.

I have a 2014 Gas model now, but when I had the TDI I was easily getting 32 on the highway, but 20 in the city.
I gave-up on TDI because of the much higher cost (and unpredictability) of Diesel prices. You should factor that into your equation.

Gasoline has fluctuated in excess of $1 up and down.
FWIW, my 2014 Q7 TDI gets north of 28mpg in 60% Highway 40% City driving. Flat out on the highway 31-32 is average. It definately gets better when the outside temps are higher. I'd say subtract 2 mpg from those numbers for winter months.
My previous 2012 3.0T Q7 was lucky to get 18 MPG combined.
Here in MN premium gas and diesel are almost exactly the same price.
My wife drives it on a 95 mile round trip commute to work each day and we are saving over $150 a month on fuel costs from our previous gas Q7.
It's been a VERY good buy - for us.

Yeah, I wish it was cheaper in CA. The math just never worked to get a TDI.
The newest gasoline engine (the lower HP motor) is getting 22 in 50%/50% mixed driving, as long as I'm not hauling the whole fan and their shizzy.
So the math is better for me in No Cal for a gasser.

I am getting 26miles/gal in city.
I am getting around 26miles/gal in city on 2013 TDI. I don't have exact stats for highway as I didn't get a chance to take it on a long road trip yet. I am not sure about other states but in NC Diesel is cheaper than premium gas by 10-20 cents sometimes.
