Default "service" light on dash but no CEL

I bought my 01 225hp tt used and the owner couldn't find the manual. My car has been running rough and we can't find a code.

the "service" light has always been on. When I play with the little switch it seems to stick on a message that states "1MPH."

can someone glance at their book and let me know what this means? I'll look around for a used owners manual as well.

thanks for the help. I am learning so much about my car trying to fix this rough riding problem I can't wait to find someone with the same symptoms to help!

The mph is yellow, correct? Its just a setting you can change to make the car beep at you if you go over a certain speed. I assume you get this by pressing one of the buttons on the gauge cluster. The service is just stating that you need service done. It is on a timed interval. Not sure about the rough idleing? Sorry I cant be more help. Um, how many miles you got on this bad boy? Could just need some plugs.

thanks for the help. Car has 130k miles and it's rougher than plugs could fix. I have about $2500 into trying to fix the rough running! I'm about to give it to an x-audi mechanic to drive and mess with it. no dealer in my humble town, or with in 340 miles.
