See that's what my first idea was. I don't wanna put flat peice of plexiglass down I wanted either a continuous carpet from the rear & round out the edges. When you had that open did you find anything that can reduce weight?

Yea, see all you need to do is addd stand-offs to the bottom of the platform to level it with the trunk floor. that was my original plan. I was going to "hang mount" alll the eelectronics from the bottom of the platform and make the platform seamless and flush with the trunk.

weight reduction? ... if you dont have stock audio anymore... then yes... there's the CD changer and bracket and an amplifier in the side wells behind the panels. Not to mention the seats themselves and some little foam blocks. nothing major though. the shape of the metal chassis piece under the seat is not flat though. at the very back where it meets the trunk floor, its about a 6" drop. Same with the front. However it dips at least another 3-4" in the center (all the way across) Thats where the stand-offs come in to level it out across the chassis piece.

Maybe put the amp & cap in the 6" put some lighting inside & plexiglass on top to see inside. But that's very "show-esq."

i agree. unfortunately, my audio needs require a lot of "boxes" (amps, processors, etc), even though I dont even have subwoofers. I figure if im going to have all these boxes, i should at least have it all setup so that it looks decent.
