Audi TT, scanner will not detect

Audi TT, scanner will not detect
I have 2001 Audi TT Roadster, recently the check engine light is on, when I connected the scanner it will not detect. I have tried 2 different scanners. I checked all the fuses and unplugged the battery for 10 mins. Any suggestions?
