yes it sucks for emissions, but what my pay would go to if I moved would be so drastic I could buy a house in Oregon or Nevada and register my car there, and still be ahead then if I moved there and changed regions.

as far asSmog goes i know they don't use a "rolling road" or dyno they just have it in neutral.

and for CARB... in the past it has been for me at least.... a "don't ask don't tell." if they don't see it then it isn't there...

but with things that potentially change fuel delivery, and the amount of it, then I would like to see a CARB approval, because the throttle jockeys will notice something like that.

thanks for help on this one... how does the neuspeed chip compare to the GIAC? When the Giac is put to the stock setting is it truly stock? if so that is a way around it. when chipped how obvious is it if the remote is hidden?

if there is an accessory injector that comes on after 3000 rpms i think that could also be "hidden."

anyone else in CA that has these mods?

Neuspeed is one of the tamer programs while the GIAC X+ software is the hottest, most tuner friendly program you can put on the 1.8T so the comparison is night an day I would imagine.

The real benefit to X+ however is the proven tuneability of it. You can hook up a VAG-COM and with some proprietary software (Lemmiwinks from REVO)you can finetune idle rpm, startup and warmup fuel enrichment, and your ignition timing individually to push the best possible numbers out of whatever turbo you can think of (as high as 20-25psi on the OEM units (K03S(180TT), and K04(225TT) repsectively) without serious risk to your motor or any big fuel system changes(4bar FPR is good, but an adjustable unit may be better for the stricter standards and only if you push over 180% stock boost). This might be enough by itself to get the skilled individual by in instances of heavy modification.

As for switching programs in the most stealth manner possible APR has the best of it with use of theOEM Computer Stalk software(go read up on APR site for more details). After switching programs though its best to drive for 40-80 miles to let your maps re-adjust for the smoothest cleanest reading.

The only time I've ever seen a 5th injector setup untilized is on cheap turbo kits for cars that are not factory turbocharged, and huge turbo'd race cars that needed MUCH more fueling after the big snail started to spool. I've never heard of it being an especially smooth running system, and I would think it would only make things harder than just getting the right injectors and detuning for tests.

The best bet would still be to go to some of your local meets even before you buy the car if you really want to see what people get away with on these cars in person. Plus they will be local so they can tell you the best ways to keep thier cars legal(read: everything is legal if you dont get caught)in your area.

so true. I live in Redding CA. it is about 3 hours north of the bay area, 2 hours north of SAC, and 1.5 hours south of the Oregon border. undoubtedly I would have to go to the Bay area to get in on any meets.

the 5th injector is rare, but proven effective in the ricer rhealms. wheres thebest place to get the GIAC with X+ software? how much does it run.
