Default Cat converter question

With a 2.5 inch stock exhaust, would it be a good idea to just buy a highflow cat and cut out the old and replace it with the new? Or is there more to it than that? Dont feel like spending about $1800 on a new exhaust as the stock one should flow good and even better if I can replace to restrictive cat. Know any good places? Thanks.

The mkI cats are pretty high flowing as is, guessing the mkII are as well. If you want more i would make a race pipe section and swap between the two as needed.

So do you think I need an exhuast upgrade for the MKII? Was looking for a good DP but the only out there so far is Milltek at $900 just for the dp w/cat.

I can try some tomorrow but I think the stock one is about 2.5 most of the way from what I have read. I have $1000 for mods right now and the chip is about $600 (hoping to not have to get a DV), and was hoping to do the 2.75 inch DP to stock catback with the other $$$ or replacing existing cat but if they flow good then wont have to do that. But 2.75 DP should help without losing low end torque I think.

The milltek one was pretty straight so you would assume so is the stock peice but i know better. If the stock peice spits into 2 like a quattro dp or and kinks, extra bends, or reduce in size i would swap it.
