clutch pedal crunching

clutch pedal crunching
Just a few days ago my clutch pedal started to make a crunching sound, kinda feels like I'm stepping on a empty soda can everytime I press the clutch. It makes the same noise and feel both pressing it in and when I release it, can I somehow lube it and make it stop? I looked under there and the top is stuck pretty far into the footwell, I guess I will have to remove some lower dash parts to access the "hinge" of the pedal. Any idea of a safe lubricant to use?
Thanks

RE: clutch pedal crunching
So I took off the lower dash part yesterday to access the top of the clutch pedal, srayed everything down and it was fixed, no nois and no crunchy feeling. I took the girl out to dinner last and by the time we got home the pedal was just as bad as it was before i sprayed it... oh well
