clutch slipping
It feels like my clutch is slipping. Most of my driving is on the highway. Anyone have an idea how long much longer it will last? Also, what clutch kit should I replace it with? 2001 tt quattro coupe, 190k miles.
Hmm...had the same problem. I bought the car at 170k with a clutch that was way slipping. I replaced it with a spec stage 2+ clutch.. which is pretty unforgiving honestly. Took a minute to get used to it. It's either in or out... there isn't a whole lot of wiggle room. I have driven standard transmissions on basically every car I've had and I'm pretty good but this makes me look stupid a lot. However it will immediately spin all 4 tires
. I recommend NOT putting that harsh of a clutch in though. And with the flywheel, apparently the OEM dual-mass flywheel can't be resurfaced. I heard someone say they can within certain specs, but when you get to it you'll notice that it's pretty thin. But I do not recommend going to a single-mass flywheel. You'll read about "clutch chatter" which I though was no big deal, but it basically makes it sound like you have a bottom-end motor problem like a knocking rod. So when you are sitting at a light in your pretty car that everyone is no doubt looking at cause they're pretty uncommon (at least around here) you look like a stupid cause it sound like it's going to blow up. I got an aluminum single-mass fidanza flywheel to be specific. So, you may have to get another flywheel... but I don't recommend that one unless you want to hold the clutch all the time like me. Oh, btw my clutch was unsprung too, which probably contributes to the excessive grabbyness.
