Default Convertible top microswitch malfunction

While driving, the system that senses whether the convertible top is unlatched indicates that it is open even though the latch is secured. This causes the windows to drop down and the instrument cluster light to flash because the system thinks you're trying to open the lid while driving. While in for service, I asked to have the problem fixed and the service advisor from Jim Ellis Audi came back with a recommendation to replace the microswitch to the tune of $1600!

So I took to investigating this and found you can very easily adjust the travel of the microswitch with a pair of pliers. Removal of the cover to expose the lever, making and testing the adjustment, and then replacing the cover took all of about 20 minutes and cost nothing.

The attached PDF provides the details.
