Default Convertible Top Problem when Closing

The power top on my 2001 TT retracts just fine. No apparent hesitation. But when trying to close the top, it will jerkily come up about one third of the way and then stall. It seems like the hydraulic pump stops because I don't hear the whine.

Its very repeatible. Opens every time, but stops in the same place when closing. Anyway, I think I won't like the answer, but how does one get to the pump and resevoir to check it out?

Or, if there's something else I should be looking at, please advise

Thanks

What does a battery replacement have to do with the convertible hydraulics?

Replaced my battery recently. No issues with the roof.
