Cruise Control ('01 TT Quattro)
If you drive with your foot on the clutch all the time try moving it a slight tap to either clutch or brake will disengage the cruise or if your resting your foot on the pedal enough to slightly push it in the cruise wont set.
If thats not the problem check the fuse if you have an owners manual there is a layout in there that will show you which fuse it is

hmmm in all the time ive owned my car i have never used CC, so i couldnt even tell ya what to do- sorrY! =)

You gotta make sure the switch is in the center position... clicked to the right the CC is off.
Oh, and we dont have a CC light, do we? If we do I have NEVER seen it.. and i have even looked for it.
