Default engine work

ok. first of all hi, nice to meet you my name is sebastian. got that out of the way.

now to the juicy stuff. i'm thinking about getting a 2000 awd audi tt turbo, but after reading the FAQ and seeing that the stock engine can only take ~25psi of boost, i would want to at least replace the pistons for some low compression ones. my problem is that because i've had eyes only for japanese cars, i don't know what my options are. firstly, do any companies offer stroker kits to bump up the displacement to around 2L? if no, what are the weak points of the 1.8T motor? say i wanted a healthy 450hp motor, which internals would have to go first and what should they be replaced with?

i also saw this talk about the timing belt and the water pump. where could i get a new, more reliable timing belt and maybe a new water pump as well?

also, would the same turbos that are so common in the japanese import world (aka garret and turbonetics) work without any problems in the TT?

btw, i've gone through a few posts, and i've noticed that unlike on all the supra forums i looked at, you're not ***** in the sense that you guys actually take it easy on the new guys here for not trying to find their own answers to questions (which i find kind of redundant. if you're asking a question it's because you can't find your own answer, right?), so props to you.

Welcome aboard.

Timing belt kits (belt, tensioner, water pump, thermostat etc) can be found at www.ecstuning.com or www.dieselgeeks.com

I don't know of any stroker kits but would be interested to hear of any.
Edit: one of more stroker kit options, but pricey at ~ $1500 www.eurospecsports.com

Lots of mod questions are addressed in the FAQ section, make sure you go through that. This forum also has a nice search function that's pretty easy to get results from.

Stroker kits are available if money is no option. www.gmgracing.com as well as a few other sites, just do some looking around google.
The stock 225 block can hold up to 400hp, thats at the flywheel then its recommended that you just change your rods.
No good changing to lower compression the 225 runs at 8.9:1.
Yes the GT series turbos will fit and work with the 1.8T
If you want 450hp at the wheels or crank, remember in the quattro its about a 80 percent drivetrain loss.
Do some searching on here and onwww.vwvortex.comthat is where you will find alot of information for yourself. Good Luck!

Holy Crap! thats a huge loss. You sure it isn't a 20% loss? I'm pretty sure you retain 80% and lose 20%.

Nope its 80 that is what I thought too but if you do some looking around its 80. The stage III kit only makes 300hp to the wheels not the 400 that you would think. Go get your car dynoed trust me you will be dissapointed...

But if it's losing 80% in the drivetrain.... that would mean that if it was 300HP at the wheels... it was 1,500HP at the crank... because if you lose 80% of 1,500HP... it leaves you with 300HP (at the wheels.) That doesn't sound right to me.

Now if it was 300 at the wheels and you lost 20% and kept 80%... that would mean you had 375HP at the crank. That sounds more accurate. I could be way off base though.

If we have an 80% drivetrain loss, i'm pulling two axles and racing some vipers tonight...

usually, you lose around 36% power between the crank and the wheels. now, after looking at the work of these german engineers, i'm sure they found a way of transferring more than 60% of the power to the wheels.

and thanks for the help, i'll be sure to look at those sites later when i have a little more time.
