Default First Time CEL

Just turned 57k and got this today.

Checked the oil for the heck of it and noticed it's about a quart low.

This sound like a clue?

It's just a little over 5k since last change a year ago.

I tried to search this on here and look for CEL but lame search feature on this site says words are too common.

Aaahh first of all. Change the oil so no other CEL's pop up!

Does the car run any different?

a quart low shouldn't make you throw a code.

Go to an autoparts store and ask them to pull the code for you. WAAAAY to many codes it could be to just guess.

well I was a little worried because I lost track of last oil change so good thing I checked cuz it's due.

I'll try O & F first then see if it goes away.

When I said quart low, not sure if that is accurate. You know the little checkerboard grid on the dipstick? Well half of it is showing with warm engine. maybe more than 1 quart.

It runs and sounded fine , maybe valve click a little more noticable on idle, not sure.

5k miles and a year later? Id have to say thats a little past due unless you hate your car. And to not check it over that time til now? No wonder it was a quart low. I dont see you getting a CEL over a quart low but I can see how waiting so long to check or change the oil may cause problems elsewhere that caused a code to pop up.

5K miles is half the mileage recomended by Audi. I go 6K myself. 10K seems too long, but I know guys that follow it.

Its 5k and OR 6 months. So u change it every 6 months even if u put 2 miles on it

Regular cars are 3k 3months

Nope - manual says 10K. So does Bentley......however I did see the 2000 is a 5K interval, interesting. All subsequent years are 10K.

Pure synthetics will last years, without breaking down, in or out of the car....though I still don't trust oil in the car for a year...

yeah thats a pretty ignorant statement. I actually change my oil every 4k. It may be a little bit premature in the eyes of anyone else, but the car doesnt lie. It runs better with newer, cleaner oil. That only leads me to believe that someone is smoking crack somewhere when I hear 10k miles. Thats just irresponsible
