Default Headlamp Ignitor Issue

I would like to know how many of you have experienced this problem.
It almost seems like it's a wide-spread issue.

Please post the year of your TT, mileage and location.

Let's hear your story and please vote.

2003 / 225

75k, Originally purchased in Seattle, WA and now living in Dallas, TX as of Oct 15th, 2007.
Problem started in Seattle @ about 60,000 miles.

It's hit or miss. Most of the time it works. When I shut off the car, turn off the lights and restart everything, sometimes that solves the problem for the time being.

None of my TT's info is relevant because the bad ignitor happened in my replacement headlight from EBay. It worked for about a month after installation and then crapped out.

I was lucky enough to have the original headlight still (minus the mounting tabs) that I could transplant a working ignitor from.

All is well.

Okay.
I'm glad you've managed to resolve this issue.

The reason I asked for the info was because I've seen a few consistent problems with the TT - things you would think are "normal" until you see a number of them that have the exact issue; such as the headlamp ignitor, right front parking light, faulty clusters, timing belt issues... and so on.

I saw another post for the $40 fix - I think I'll have to go that route.

None the less, I love my car and I have no intentions of getting rid of her!

Just purchased a 2005 180 FWD TT with 42,000 mileson Sunday

the passenger side headlight flickers then goes out. Itcomes back on ifyou turn the lights off and on againbut then goes out.

I took it to Longo Toyota (where I bought it) and they said it will be fixed forfree no problem since its within the first 30 days of purchase. Then the service guy calledme back at lunch and says now they can't figure it out and are sending it to Penske Audi for diagnosis. Is it the ignitor or ballast? I will search for a diagramof the headlights to see all the different parts but it seems I am not the only one eh?

Dang and I was so happy with my purchase!

Any experience or advice would be much appreciated!

a bad or loose conection on the battery will cause havoc on your electrical system. check you battery, then check your terminals, then check the headlamp connectors for security, sometimes they just get a little loose. As well as the battery, the cold sometimes cause the electrical to act up before the car warms up. i have had similar issues, and it was do to a loose connection and a lose battery terminal. cost, $free!

I've smashed the **** out of a total of 4 headlights now, so I keep a pretty steady supply of new ones, no issues related to bad ballasts or whatnot yet.

My right headlight works only about 1/2 the time. Dealer said it was the ignitor but quoted an insane amount. How much are you selling yours for?
