Headlight bulbs...impossible?? Helllppp

Headlight bulbs...impossible?? Helllppp
Hi all. Tried changing my Xenon bulbs.(2000 TT MK1)
Problem one...my hands are too big. Two...I can't see, even with a mirror. Not even room for a flashlight.
I've read the bible (Bentley) and other posts. Seems to be quite straight forward. Are the bulbs supposed to lock into the headlight? I see notches but I'm turning it every which way to no avail...I even tried with the original bulbs in case I had a fitment issue. The bulbs wont lock in or stay in place so I can get the retainer ring on.....
