Default Heated mirrors & Xenon intermittent issues

I recently purchased a nice 2004 papaya orange TT V6 DSG and am quite pleased with the car. A beautiful thing to look at, be in and drive.

One thing I haven't figured out, as the weather is quite cold now when the car is left on the driveway frost forms over night on the windows and outside mirrors. So, I try to heat them. I logically press the button which is I suppose is to heat the mirrors and the rear window(the one by the all-4-indicators button). The rear window does heat/clear up quite fast, but the mirros take ages, most probably they clear up by themselves, not because they got heated. Am I missing something? Is there a different button for heating up mirrors? On my previous cars the same button usually did both?
Anyway, eventually the "power heating"buttonautomatically switches off.. The mirrors still frosted/wet.

I can adjust the mirrors electricaly, that works fine.. But mirror heating doesnt seem to work at all or I'm missing something here.

The other problem is the left xenon beam seems to intermittenly fail causing the computer to throw a "light bulb faulty". Sometimes it just switches off and immediately on, doing the xenon ignition flash and causing people to think I have flashed them. Sometimes it just switches off and remains off. If I switch off the beam and switch it on again theyignite again and work for a while. The problem is really intermittent.. Sometimes I can drive for a day without it happening. Sometimes it happens every minute. It doesnt seem to be related to road irregularities either, it can happen while waiting for the green light, at standstill. Only the left beam dies always, the right beam works properly or at least I have never noticed that it died. All the other lighting is working properly too. Can this be the xenon bulb or is it something else? I have been told that xenon bulbs when dead they simply stop working forever. They just dont cut out intermittenly...So it is supposed to be something else, or so the audi service guy said but he didnt seem very smart. He wanted to do computer diagnostics to see why it happens which I didnt agree too. I dont see how the computer would know what's wrong with the xenon beam.

I just remembered another thing. The fuel gauge. The computer starts beeping about low fuel when estimated range falls to 50km. But at that point the fuel gauge needle only gets close to the red part of the gauge. When estimated range falls to 0km the needle just enters the red zone, on the border. Is that supposed to be like that? How much fuel is there at that point? It seems the like you run out of fuel as soon as the needle reaches the red zone even though there's at least 10 degrees needle movement till the end of the red zone. I actually have run out of fuel and the needle was on the border, just entering the red zone.

And if any of you have the DSG transmission, I can sometimes hear and feel it change gears, ususally 1st to 2nd and 2nd to 1st. I hear a click, it is more audible from outside the car, is that normal? It seems to work fine other than that.

Thanks in advance for help!
