Default Help me decide on my used TT purchase

Hi

I am new to Audi domain. I want to buy a TT, and have shortlisted 2:

1. 2001, 6spd 225hp Quattro - with 60K miles. - asking price around 10,500
2. 2004, 3.2L Quattro - with 110K miles. - asking price 11K

Please let me know which one is to be preferred? If I want to resale which one would fetch me the right price after 2 years.

Thanks.
Bobby

If it were me, I wouldn't even consider the 3.2 w/100K+...now or in 2 years. That transmission is extremely expensive to repair...probably will need it any time.

Go for the 1.8.

One more question - do you feel the price for the 1.8L is okay 10,500 ?

The 1.8 would be fine if it has all it's current maintence done at that price.

Here are my long winded thoughts based on my recent entry into the TT world... It was a worthwhile project, but one I could have saveda few bucks on so I'll share...

I bought my used 2003 225hp roadster for about that same price, and did not check deeply enough into what hadn't been done. Spent a few grand on service, preventative maint, and small fixes. I should have had a mechanic (audi trained) look it over before I made a final price negotiation.

Biggest things - timing belt/water pump.. I had to replace mine - price $700-1500 depend in dealer, independant. DIY for a few hundred if you are capable. Suspension - at 60k it might be time for new shocks/springs. That could run you another grand +/- depending on what you want. CV boots. I had to change out 4 of them and spend about $800. Do the remotes work? What is the condition of the hoses - any cracking/splitting, etc. Coils, plugs, etc. Any misfiring going on - get VCDS on that engine and see what's happening. Airbag system... I spend another $600 for an intermittant airbag light - bad driver side injector. How about the radio. Mine was trash. CD player skipped, amp cut on/off. Subwoofer was blown. I spent a grand on a new one... turbo system. What's the condition of the DV - it's a diaphram and subjected to tear and create leaks. Does the car hold and dump boost properly?

Those are the things I experienced. And it looks and runs perfect and now even has some nice performance upgades (GIAC tune, open air intake, downpipe, DV), and it has all it's maint done... It purrs like a kitten and drives like a tiger. I also spend some of that money to do some respray on little rock chips, and added a few interior replacements like fixing my glovebox (stuck sometimes), and put new mats in, new wheels, new tires, etc...

All in all, I have less than $15k into mine. But it's so amazing and sure gets attention. It sohuld last me a long time of enjoyment if I stay on top of it from here on out. She was rescued! Beats spending 3-4x that for a new one! ;-)

I bought my 2001 225 w/67kmiles on jun 4, 2009, for $9K. Asking price was $11K. It need TB, some suspension work, and a few other maintenance/
repair items that I didn't see coming.

Now 12 months later I have any additional $4K invested into its maint/repair over the cost of the car. Oh, and I have no regrets. Love my little baby.

Regardless of the price you finally pay, you should expect to "invest" a similar amount...$2-4K would not be unreasonable.

You don't own a TT, you support it.

good luck.
