here's what i'm thinking-opinions pls
my a4 has @104kmi. i bought it cause i was driving an mr2spyder and wanted an awd hardtop utility type vehicle to go w/the spyder. when i decided to go back to school, i downsized to one car, choosing the audi. a year later, i really don't use the "utility" aspect of the car. i've used the back seats once. i'm in ga so i'd be ok w/a softtop again. and i love the awd. so, im thinking tt. oh yeah, and college chicks dont dig the wagon.
the a4 is paid for, but im planning for a loan on the tt of like $200/mo. in my mind, im offsetting the monthly payment w/the money i plan to spend on the a4 anyway. like $2k by jan cause i cant do any work myself while im up here and its all just piece of mind repair. redo this and that so i know i wont have it breakdown. seems to come to over that per month anyway.
im looking into an 01tt 6sp quattro w/225hp i expect id avoid any performance mods, mainly cause i cant do anything myself and that'll be fast enough round here.
i'm in school for the next 4 yrs. that means i'll drive like 6k mi/yr now, if that. the tt has under 50K mi, so i'm thinking thru school w/only basic maint. timing belt after i grad when 1) $ wont be an issue, 2) i could actually do it myself if i chose.
i just hate the idea of going into debt again, but ive spent like $3k already on the a4 in the last yr, w/$2k planned in the next 2 months. so, im thinkin buy the car i wont have to repair/mod or worry bout whether this was done or that was done.
on the a4 ive done/will have done by jan:replaced lock vacuum, hid upgrade, giac ecu chip, tip chip, borla catback, front and rear pads/rotors, rear calipers, new tb, wp, headgasket, all lines under engine related to oil/oil cooling, some other minor items. the tires are in great shape, expect they'll last the next 4 yrs now. honestly, after jan, the only thing id like to do for long term performance/reliability is a level10 on the tranny. i cant really think of anything major to worry bout after that. any ideas?
any tt people, how reliable is the quattro? how does it react vs an a4? as i understand it is a different set up. basically fwd w/an addon system. and does the car ever feel like a fwd, cause that would suck and kill it there for me.
feedback is appreciated. thanks

I almost bought a mr2 spyder, so I can compare my 01 225 tt to it.... basically the mr2 is more fun to drive. The tt is faster, has more options, more pratical, and overall nicer. But, it isn't the rear engine two seater that the mr2 is (gotta love the no available options, wtf!). However, I counld not picture driving only an mr2 and thus the tt is a good cross between the two.
The maintance on a tt is the worst of any car I have ever owned (I guess cadillac, hondas, toyotas don't compare though). Very few repair places well touch it, parts are $$$, its pretty hard to work on, and you need more special tools then most other cars. I only drive about 10k miles per year and calculate that I about $2000 per year on maintance and repairs alone. In summary, the TT maintance would be thesame as an A4....

I agree that you should drive the TT once and you will know immediately for yourself.
As for waiting 4 years to do the timing belt... you are just begging to screw yourself out of a nice car and/or up to $7,000 in damages.
If you're at 50,000 miles on the car now... I would negotiate to have the timing belt replaced by the dealership prior to you buying it so that you can basically just tack that onto the buying price (this way the $700-$800 in parts and labor are spread over the life of your loan).
You do NOT want to drive a TT with 50,000 mile for 4 years without changing the timing belt. If it wereone year... then maybe... but I would not go more than 2 years without changing it. Audi claims 100,000 miles (although they will not pay damages if it goes before that).... they average 70,000 miles.... and some have gone as low as 30,000 miles. You have about a 1/1,000 chance of having your timing belt go outbetween 50,000-70,000... but im telling you.... if you're already hurting for money, you do NOT want to risk a timing belt... it WILL BREAK YOU.
just my opinion.

thanks all. this was what i was wondering. in the a4 section, the timing belt is bout the miles, never seen a post yet of your car is under mile but old, do it anyway.
thanks
thanks
have you thought about getting a cabrio or a4 cabrio?
just a thought.... you say you are in ga, do you really get that much snow that you need the quattro?
and you are selling the avant cause college girls don't like it? wtf man....... keep that thing and make it allshow + allgo = wet panties

a4 cabrios more than i wanna spend. quattros bout having it when you need it. in fl rain, it was helpful all the time. here, i hear bout black ice. and i wont ever drive fwd again. never been real big on the looks of a car myself, other than the inherant design. so exterior changes dont really do a thing for me. i see hte eurotags, the blacked out this and think, why? if it doesn't make it faster or handle better, i just dont get it.
appreciate the input turbo kraut. thanks, making me think.
