Thinking of Buying a friend of my cousins A4 - Opinions pls.
2002 Audi A4 with 71K miles Black with Tan interior.
Body appears to be in great shape. Rubber seal & small metal (not body) damage on the left rear door (part of the window) that appears to be easily repairable/replacable. Windshield is crack which he will raplace. It has after market 18" TSW wheels. The OEMs will be included with the sale. Engine is very clean. Not the kinda "I just steamed cleaned it yesterday" clean. One issue that concerns me tho is the engine light is on. He claims it had been "on" for the past 2 yrs. A mechaninc friend suggested it might be just a air sensor. Last he had it reset, engine light came back on after driving 75 miles. Any ideas from you seasoned owners? Interior is kinda messy. It appears a major cleaning is needed. None smoker 'tho. Some interior parts are broken (i.e. glove box handle, 1 front/mid vent adjuster). 6 inch tear on the drivers seat. CD player does not play. Radio and tape works. Is the radio unit double DIN that can be replace with after market? I have a Pioneer AVIC D3 unit that I can replace it with.
He was upset the dealer was only willing to give him 2500 for it. He said "Rather sell outright to a friend for a little more". So, we KINDA agreed (for now) $3300. What do you ALL think? Please respond with your opinions/suggestions on the fixes if i do get it.
Thanks in advance
Hopefully a future owner...

Sounds like he dogged the crap out of it. These cars are enough of a headache when they have been well maintained. That is very cheap but it still may not be worth it. You need to find out what the check engine light is about. Take the car to autozone and they will check the codes for free. At 71k miles its prob not an o2 sensor.
One big prob is that the oil has probably not been changed regularly, and that means the car has oil sludge.

How was he about having the motor maintained? Even though he dogged out the inside, maybe (emphasis on MAYBE) he mainted the motor. You may want to ask him if the car gives him problems starting after filling it up. I currently have a CEL on pertaining to the EVAP Emissions system. And everytime I fill up, the car takes a few extra seconds to start.
