Default Holyshit am I pissed. new clutch? ...hmm not so much...

So Im getting my clutch and starter replaced today...the shop says they have everything installed right..but they cant get the car to start...push come to shove they think they need to have audi re-set something in the computer because the battery was unplugged. Hopefully this works...otherwise im going to be REALLY up set.

Anyways we got the car start by pushing it back wards and throwing it in gear...so i know the clutch works...but holyshit is it light...is this normal for a stage 1 clutch from ecs? ..they said that they didn't bleed anything...or open the master cylinder

thanks guys...let me know...im freaking out.

Man I am sorry, you have had bad luck with that TT and that dealership. Yes they should bleed the system and it should start. It sounds like if you complain you may get a discount. But hey that is what I would do. Good luck let us know what happens.

Its at the dealership today, they said likely they will not be able to get it in until tomorrow.

Audi states that it oddly should start unless the starter (new starter) is bad or it is installed incorrectly.

My problems.

1. Car doesn't work.
2. I have to pay the first mechanic
3. I'm loosing income because I can not go to work.
4. I have to pay the Audi dealership - To review/fix the first mechanics work.

What is your advice?

-Should I pay the first mechanic? (Its a mom and pop shop in a smaller town just outside the city, its literally 3 blocks away from the multimillion dollar publishing company I work for)
(Keep in mind, I called in a week in advance, asked him if he can do the work, he agreed completely that he could do the work)

-Do I hold him responsible for my lost wages?
(I am not able to drive to work)

-Should the clutch be as light as it is?...Its SUPER light.
(Should they bleed the system?) (For those of you saying yes, do you have an ECS clutch? How does yours feel?)

At a minimum get the shop to give you a loaner car so you can get to work. That's just poor customer service on their part. Make sure they know thatthey are really inconveniencing you.

I'm going to have my ECS installed the Friday after this one and I'm not too worried. I know the guy doing mine has a great repuation and I believe hes installed the ECS before.

Also ECS states the Stage 1 has OEM feel so I'm guessing light is WRONG.

This is our #1 selling clutch kit. MostMk4 4 cylinder carswill damage the stock dual mass flywheel when the clutch starts slipping. The dual mass flywheel when bought from V/W is over $500. We offer the complete kit that includes a OEM lightweight 14 steel flywheel for less than just a flywheel from V/W. This kit will retain stock like pedal characteristics along with much improved clamping force & larger diameter clutch assembly. Lighter OEM Steel flywheel only 14lbs versus 22 lbs of the stock 1.8T. This is not a lightened modified OEM flywheel like others.[*]20-30% more clamping force than stock clutch![*]Faster spool-ups & more horsepower![*]Kit uses OEM Sachs VR6 Clutch pieces[*]Kit is good up to 200-250 wheel Horsepower & up to approx 275lbs of wheel torque[*]Excellent pedal feel pedal retains OEM type feel. Kit includes the following parts:[*]Lightweight steel OEM flywheel[*]Sachs clutch pressure plate[*]Sachs clutch disc[*]Sach's OEM throw out bearing[*]OEM throw out bearing[*]OEM flywheel bolts Installation: Torque Flywheel to crank 60Nm.(44ft.lbs.) + 1/4" turn (90deg)Torque Pressure Plate to Flywheel 20Nm.

This shop is so small it doesn't have loaner cars.... (I'm talking in the middle of Iowa) ...

I'm going to be more than pleasant for the time being, If I find out that its because its an audi and the dealership just has to reset a code...im going to pay him as such, and just ask for a discount because of my lost wages and time. (He wasn't able to complete the assignment)

Now if it turnes out to be an install issue, then I will ask that the work be done for free because I'll be having to pay audi to re-install his work. (Which I honestly think is more than far, considering he offered his services with the intent to correct the issue. Mind you the car was running before it came in...yes it had a slipping clutch, but it ran.) ....

I will however never take my car back to this shop again....so hopefully I can get all of this **** figured out.

Thanks for the advice guys....

That is an outstanding point, I will make sure he reads that ...im starting to think this clutch install was done for free....

hopefully the dealer can correct it for cheap....wait..did i just say dealer and cheap? ****

maybe i should make this shop take the bill?

well the starter can only get installed one way. i know cuz i did my own install spec stage 2+ steel FW and the is no code or anything like that to reset to make the car start. bleeding the clutch system will not make the car start but will chage your pedel feel a lot. make sure all the plugs i think there is like 2 or three around the tranny under the battery tray next to the starter are plugged in. there is a starter maybe 8 gauge wire that needs to be on the pos battery terminal (so the starter gets power) there is also a check valve on the left hand side of the gear selector shaft on the tranny case. check that to make sure everything looks good(or tell the mechanic to check it) hope this helped
