Holyshit am I pissed. new clutch? ...hmm not so much...
its at the audi dealer now.
From what it sounds like its an install error. Should I make the first shop pay for this? Or how should I approach the situation?

wait to see what the audi dealer says there is a LOT involved with the clutch job i didnt trust anybody to do it. not even my audi dealer! if you look through the bentley repair manual its a lot of steps to remember and very time consuming. some of the steps i tried to skip but then i saw why you had to do them so i did all the steps even though they seemed stupid. so maybe the mechanic skipped some of steps and goofed things up. i have the quattro so its a lot more involved (transfer case) so your Front wheel drive should have been way easier. not having to drop one of the driveshafts etc anyway i would wait to hear from Audi and see what the mechainc missed but yeah i would make him pay for all the repairs unless you signed some kind of a wavier, but any mechainc that takes on a job and says thier confident in thier work should do it right or pay UP!!!
MeanAudiA6 -- Would you say that everyone that does anything to their TT must buy the Bentley manual for it? I've never seen one, so I don't know how detailed it is, but I know I don't want to buy one if it's toosimple like "step1: jack car up, step2: unscrew drain plug, step3: replace oil filter, step4: put new plug in, step5: put in new oil, drive off" But if it's highly detailed and dummy-safe (for people like me that are still fledgling young Padawans
) I will def. plan on getting it. I'm wanting to drop some serious money into my car w/ in the next year, both for fun and to learn as much as I can about it, since I unfortunately had a neglected childhood in that regard

As for the original situation, I think you're looking at having the original mech eat the cost. It sucks that it's a small operation, where this sort of thing feels more personal, rather than "big bad Wal-mart effed up my car" but yeah, if they refuse, attorneys may need to step in. Unless you're feeling overly nice to them and decide to drop it. Guess that depends on the final out of pocket costs you incur. Hope you find resolution soon.... so you can get back to enjoying your ride

Man I am sorry that you had to go thru this, I would wait and see what the audi dealer says. MAKE SURE YOU GET EVERYTHING IN PAPER. Sorry for the caps but its important if you do end up going the legal way. I have seen many cases where no proof, it gets thrown out. If it is a install error, then take that to the small town shop and have them incur the cost of what it took the audi dealership to fix their mistake. After all they did say that they could put it in. I have the SPEC Stage II+ in and its not light, but its alot smoother than the stock one. But it should not be light at all. Hope this helps let us know what happens.
yeah i couldn;t have done the clutch job without the bentley cd rom. its a little vague in some areas but for the most part its dead on and very accurate. it helped me a lot. i did have to figure some things out for myself but you'll have that. i would say get it if you plan on modding your TT also invest in a vag com. ecs now sells the USB vag-com cable so you can save tons of money. 130 instead of 250 100-for the license and 30-cable. i dont have the license yet but just the shareware version works for the most part.
yeah but i'm gonna use this http://www.amp82.co.uk/tt/timingbelt/
