it was actually after my coilover install, the front drivers side wheel was skipped when everything was retorqued... and so yeh if your lug nuts are not tight enough, they will eventually come out

Did the same thing in my 95 Jetta after putting on new rims, dont feel bad I know what its like to watch your wheel hit the back bumper of the guy in front of you at the stoplight. Sucks getting towed though lol...
