Immediate Help!! Threads stripped on Oil Filter
Honestly if it is stripped, it's gonna cost you!
I wouldn't try to rush this job as you could cause catastrophic damage on your drive back to Illinois.
Just wait until the morning when you can really see what's going on.
Maybe you're just not lining the filter up right. *crosses fingers*

Becca you are right... I don't understand why trying several different times for 1 hour didn't do it, but when i went back down there again... It worked!! I still think that the bolt is shot for next time I change my oil, but at least it will be warm and I"ll have a better idea of how much parts cost and how hard the work might be. Thank you all for helping me. Sorry i freaked out, but when your only car is screwed, i go crazy.
been there!
I'm driving on a bad CV, and a burned out haldex clutchpack, with 225 wide all seasons, in VERMONT. My car is beat right now, i'm a little on edge with it. Time to earn some amex points...

Do other people have problems putting their oil filter back in??? or am I just a dope. I go from underneath, and i know some of you go from up top somehow?? I don't know how you can even come close to it from up top, but more power to you if you can.
I've never done it w/o the pit honestly. I could see where it might be hard if you're laying on the ground under the car. I unscrew it from under the car, and either pull it out past the coolant lines, or let it rest against something while i pull that thin plastic engine trim piece, and then retrieve it from above. Depends on how dirty I feel like getting really.
I never had a problem screwing it on, just can barely fit it in place. I would not be suprized if your threads were f'd, because audi techs put the filter on super hard. You can rethread studs, just look in the store by the taps.
