Let's Be Realistic
talk to coilcohn (sp), he had the kit installed and i think he just had to makethe pipingfit under the strut bar and made 3 brackets to help support the ic. It requires more work but its still a few hundred dollars cheaper and witha better/shorter piping route and roughly equal intercooler core. I cant seem to find it, but someone sells just that piping kit and then you can get a much nicer core. i would highly recommend that route if you dont have the funds for a nicer Forge or Apr kit and what to go BT in the future
Some people on vortex say if you ask the ebay retailers you can get the piping separate and sometimes you can find it sold by itself also. I would go with that and a pricision 350 core for stock to gt28rs maybe a 2871r.
So you should be able to get a piping kit for $200-250shipped and the 1000000X nicer PTE 350 for $285 shipped. That would be about the same as a $1000 kits performance and on a tight mans budget.

^ i remember reading up on a DIY custom FMIC back in the day, and when u made the 3 brackets for the IC, didnt you need to have it welded onto your radiator support?
i think it was that infamous eBay FMIC thread. anyone remember that
? shoulda been stickied.

His was attached to the top of the crash bar. That thread was like tcarbon vs forge or something like that. But this is the kit going on a gti and according to coilcohn, he did far less work. LINK
The reason he did less work is we have more space behind the crash bar and it didnt need to be modified like the gti did. Also we dont have to cut the bumper to my understanding

ok so take this DIY write up for example:

what necessary fabs/mods would TT's need using that guide? and looking at these DIY's, looks like the turbo pipe is going to be rubbing against the strut bar. is it the same situation with our TT's? etc. etc.

some people with strut bars turn the pipe to make it fit under. I think coilcohn just trimmed both ends of the pipe. Im hoping thats not the core there using, because thats not a very nice core, the ebay ones use a godspeed core which is about the same as a tcarbon core. The only other mod he did was take a peice of aluminum and cut it into 3 peices and then bolted them to the ic and then to the crash bar. That was all that was needed.
^ i'm pretty sure you can pick up the brackets at some home depot or something for the IC support. any clue on what type of crazy bend the bracket would need to be? like a Z-type bracket and what size bolts? if not, it's kool.
i'm gonna try thisDIY FMIC mod real soon if i get the necessary precautions out the way.

^ so i'm assuming there's holes along the crash barfor easy bolting? no need to drill holes in it kinda like what you had to do for the GTi bumper support for the tunerstop ki.
if thats just the case and the strut bar problem... i'm gonna attempt this within the next month or 2. now what size godspeed core would you recommend? and about the piping, just a 1.8t eBay kit?
