Looking to buy TT...SERIOUS QUESTION!
I am in search for a Black TT. I currently have a 99 A4 2.8, so off the bat - I am an Audi Lover.
I have heard some bad things about the TT thought. They said the 1.8 in the TT has ALOT of problems with it, and it is very hard to do any kind of repair.
First of all.... do the TT Coupes have any other engine BESIDES the 1.8?
Second.... What should I expect when purchasing a used TT ('01-'02)
Third... How is maintenence? (Like I said before, I own an A4 2.8,so I am familiar with costly repairs)
Please..... Need help!

I think for the 01 and 02 years you are only going to get the 1.8T, however you have to HP options. 180 and 225. Take your pic. The 180 seems to be the most abundant.
As for what to expect you can expect a lot of car. The nice thing that I have found about the used TT's is that they have not been beatin' or riden hard. Most of the people that I have talked to, that have used TT's including myself, their cars were previously owned by middle age professionals that took their car to the dealership for Mx and repair per the Audi Maintenance Plan. So, yes you are getting a used vehicle but one that has deffinately been taken care of. The other thing is, now this could be good or bad, it seems that the TT does not hold its value all that well. The particular car that I am driving I paid just under 20,000 for. When I bought it I found the original window sticker in the trunk. It sold new for 46,000. So the car depresiated 26,000 in 3.5 yrs. This being the case you can get a lot of bang for your buck.
Its German.....maintenance is a pain. I have only had two issues with mine in the year that I have had it. The first was my turn signals went out. Easy fix and not too expensive. The second can definately be avoided...I threw my timing belt and sheld my engine. So change your belt around 60,000, and you should be fine. Beyond that the car has been terrific. Especially now that I have a completely new top end. [:@]
Its a great car, fun to drive, and believe it or not I still have people either pull up next to me or walk by and with awe in their voice ask.." Hey man, nice ride. What kind of car is that? "

I agree with atitude.....I have my 01 tt convertible for about 8months now. While driving down the street I have kids yelled " nice TT".....some cowboy in his Ford F150 " Nice Quattro"....So TT is a fun attractive car. I think if you like the style and the drive, you should get it. Dont worry about the car loosing value.
As for repairs. I take my car to a local German shop "perri's" for any repairs and oil change. my TT is a 01, I just have notice problem with electrical......after a oil change check engine light came on Perri's said it was the dash didnt have connection, but after he reset the computer...no problem at all.
sometimes my window wont roll up...but after shuting off the engine and restart, window will go up again.
But I think TT is a fun car.

Somebody lied to you if they said the 1.8 has alot of problems.
Timing belt at 60K, even though Audi recommends 105K. They say the belt is rated for that, Im sure it is, but its usually the tensioner that goes. Origional waterpumps have plastic impellers that crack/fall apart, usually take care of that with the timing belt, since you're right there anyway.
The older TT's have instrument cluster problems, mine failed. W/O warantee, its not cheap, - about 600 bucks for a new one, and its gotta be set by Audi, or you really have to trust your skills and try it with a vag-com. Its a one shot deal with the milage though, if its not entered right, thats it, theres no going back for a second try.
IF you have the money for one, theres the 250hp 3.2L V6, its NA, and it only comes with the DSG auto transmission.
I'd still take a stick over paddle shifters....
