Default low temperature...help!!!!!

ok a couple of days age i drove out of town and came back late at night. on the way there the car needle was in the middle, but later that night when i drove back home the needle stay on the very frist bar next to the letter "c" i thought maybe outside was cold so thats why it was at the "c" but i know that it does stay like that for 3 hours. Next day i turn on the car and drove it around for awhile and the needle still stay at "c" mark...Any solutions as to why the needle stay at that mark will help me alot.

a stuck thermostat would do that.

coolant passes thru the thermostat too fast, pulling more heat away from the engine than it should.

How many miles on the car? If you're around 60K, its time to do a timing belt job, and most kits also include a new thermostat and housing, since you've got everything torn out anyway.

It IS possible to do just the thermostat, but reaching it is a huge PITA. Think it took me about an hour to do the last one I did. Helps to have a universal joint or two for your wrench... and one for your arm...

Just did mine for this very same problem. There is a good DIY on vwvortex for the TT. Running too cool makes your computer run rich and can cause carbon build up too.
