Monroe Shocks and Struts
Monroes are said to be the brand used on the TT from the factory.
I replaced my stock shocks/struts on my '00 with Bilstein HDs (with stock springs) this past July. The car had ~110k miles..and was begging for the shocks to be changed.
Feels great. Sporty and firm ride. Price for parts was somewhat high, but I wanted some nice performance shocks/struts rather than getting oem replacements. I also changed out the strut bushings/bearings at the same time which is recommended.
Whether you get Monroe shocks or other, I believe it usually is recommended to get a kmac kit if you lower your car - to correct camber. That'll cost you some more $$.
If you're really short on cash, and really plan on getting coilovers eventually, I say hold off and sell your H&R springs.
