New paint?
Thinking of getting a new paint job something good. Not the 200 dollar job. I was wondering how much they usually cost and about how long it should take. I am wanting to turn it a Dark metalic silver, I know ouTTie914 "silver is faster". Just wondering if anyone had any information on how to tell if the paint shop is a good quailty one or not.
Yes, I've converted one!
I don't know too much as far as paint jobs go. But according to vnv27 painting the car will decrease it's value.
Not too sure how much weight that holds because I've never painted any of my cars.
I did once call a local shop to find out how much it would be to repaint my whole car the same color, it was in excess of 5 grand.
Maybe you could call around to a few places, and find out how many coats of paint they do, if they put that clear coat on.
I Think I read somewhere that Audi paints their cars with like 17 different layers, for anti-rust and other things.
I'm sure someone else will be more helpful then me...

I'm not a huge fan of Silver. Its one of those colors that kind of blends in.
But my last TT was silver and i loved how it was always clean and didn't show scratches.
I do not like black at all it's never clean and always looked scratched unless waxed.
I know around me you can get the TT fully repainted for around 3500 bucks.
I want to go with that orangeish color the newer Audis come in. mostly because it's different and i like different.

I always liked blue it's one of those deep strong colors.
I'm sure i'll be shunned by OuTTie914 for thinking silver is a boring bland color
I've been trying to figure out a Red and Black color combo because there both strong colors but it ends up looking like a ricer.
Like having the Hood hatch and roof Black and the sides red.
But when i did it in Photoshop it looked terrible haha.

I love my denim blue... It has the clean-looking benefits of silver while still looking fabulous when waxed... Plus, I get comments nonstop about how people love the color and they've never seen a TT like mine! I don't let it get to my head, but just throwin' it out there

i want to go something like the blue on the 350z. But getting the whole car changed to a differnt color cost a sh*t load is because of removing and reinstalling parts, also some paint isnt cheap (house of kolors).
yeah our Audi's have a 28 part paint job stock, that's a **** load! and to get a car painted well is gonna cost you a couple grand. i don't think its worth it. and i have the color Desert Green Pearl, i love it it is pretty rare of all the colors the TT's came in. in the light it looks silver but its green, it think thats cool. Pearl colors are much better than metalics.
A complete color change is pretty much the most expensive route you can go. Aside from parts having to be R&R'd you HAVE to spray doorjambs and (at least) parts of the engine bay or else it ends up looking half assed. Unless you go to a very reputabloe shop, you will almost inevitably end up with overspray in some areas that further make it obvious.
When it comes to body work, the cost is ultimately linked to the final outcome as materials costs really dont vary too much, your paying for TIME. How much time the body tech has to put into the car to get it looking like you want it. For a really comprehensive respray in an OEM or better style finish you can expect to pay several thousand dollars. For show-quality paintwork you are talking $9-10k+.
Bodywork is the ONLY thing I would every really say "you get what you pay for" and mean it. The more you pay, the better it will ultimately come out. I would NOT recommend a color change unless you are willing to sink alot of money into the finish of your car, or are ok with having some areas look sup-par as far as OEM standards are concerned.
