Just found out I'm gonna be able to get mine in the booth and re-sprayed for free! Black top, and some blemeshis here and there and shell look brand new. Well not really free, I'll be donating my time doing some body work/wrenching at a race shop in return for attention to the TT.

They may be opening up to the public soon so it could turn in to a job building race cars Getiing paid to go fast with someone elses money? What could be better.

". Just wondering if anyone had any information on how to tell if the paint shop is a good quality one or not.
Where you live and what type of shop you go to will determine cost and quality. A $200 job in Utah might cost $800 in L.A..

I do NOT recommend MAACO unless you're selling the car to someone you hate.

All shops are rated in the industry on a scale from A to D. An "A" shop is top quality, paint a lot high end cars, but cost a bit more. These places are relatively clean, the workers are competent and some even have degrees in automotive refinishing. A "D" shop, on the other hand, is basicallysome random guy in his back yard, doing a whole-car paint job with the paint roller he borrowed from his mom. lol

Anyway,a good way to tell is by calling a bunch of places and talking to the painter/bodyman. Get a bunch of quotes and just go with the place that makes you feel the mostcomfortable. Then visit the place, ask the same questions, and take a look around the shop. Look at the other cars they have around for and idea of what people trust them with. Is there a BMW...well then they're probably a good shop. Are all beat up 1989 Ford Tempos waiting to be painted and the bodyman has his face in a gallon of body filler huffing the fumes?...then you may want to look somewhere else.

I wonder how much it would cost to get a fresh coat of black added to mine to make it look new again but add in some blue and silver metal flakes so it glitters a bit in the sun.
Just as much as a whole paint job minus some material. The really expensive part of a paint job is the prep. Black cars look cool with some kind of accent applied with a pearlescent color - so they just flash for a moment...keeps people wondering if they really saw it or not.
