Newb question about ABS
Hello.. I just recently got my TT, which has been my dream car for a while. Im enjoying the hell out of it but theres one thing Im a bit concerned about. Once in a while if I go over a pot hole or something that jars the car a lot, the ABS light comes on and it beeps. I had the dealer hook it up to the computer and he said that the brake fluid was sploshing around.. however I dont really trust him. Has anybody experienced this before??
Thanks.
Thanks.
Welcome and congrats on getting a TT, it dosent sound really like the "fluid is splashing around" its sounds like you may have a loose connection somewhere and when you hit a bump it may knock it around for a second, I honestly dont really know, but im sure someone on here will give you some good pointers. Congrats again, and welcome to the family!!!!
I would ask them to explain in detail how that would make it do that. In fact, whenever I am told ANYTHING at a dealer that doesn't make sense I ask them to explain it in detail. If they explain it with more things that don't make sense ask questions about that. After this "third degree" type qestioning you can usually tell which ones are being honest or know their stuff. Hesitation on an answer isa dead give-away that they don't know it or are guessing. Then its second opionion time.
ABS Wheel sensor bad? Ask them why they don't think it is that.

I had this happen on an 03 a4 avant, but it was only on like afew particualr spots on the road I often travelled, namely a big frost heave or pothole on a corner that I always took in a uh...spirited manner. My esp/abs lights came on just when one wheel was over/in the pothold but the other one on that axel was still happy on the road, I have no idea of thisyour issues or not, sorry [:'(]
Thanks for all your responses.Wouldn't you know it, as soon as I get my car we get 4" of snow here in the NE. Anyway I also suspect the ABS sensors, does anybody know of any guides that will tell me how to troubleshoot them or at least make sure they are clean?

That happened to me when I got mine in the dead of winter in order to get a good deal lol. The first "top down" day of the year finally arrived though and it was sweet.
I doubt its the fluid sloshing round hehe that's a good one check the fluid level, it sounds like you lost traction on the wheel when it hit the pot hole or you break whilst the wheel was in there which would have sent a bad signal to the ECU.
ABS and traction dont work too well in the snow so get used to the light giving erroneous information - as long as the CEL goes off then its working

Ok, Just to follow up, it sounds like this is really supposed to happen, since once you go over some rough road the wheels probably do loose traction. So the question really is how do I turn off that annoying beeping? Somebody mentioned that there is a way to turn off the alarm sound but they didnt say how to do it. Originally I said it was the ABS light, but its actually the ABS, the tracktion control and the break lights. It beeps 3 times and then the lights go out again.
Speaking of electrical oddities, mine pops-out of cruise control if I hit a fairly good-sized pothole or bump on the freeway. Also, if the hood slams shut sometimes thecar will auto-lock with the little "beep" you get when locking with the key fob. I never leave the key in it, ever!
