Default number of questions!

ok, i just bougth a tt 180 fwd and i am planning a build up plan and i would like to know some engine basics-

what is the stock boost?, can the engine run 20stock when i chip it?--
are there forged internals i can buy somewhere
should i get a boost controller or chip it-
how do you like the borla exhaust-
is a front mount intercooler worth it
is there hard(metal) intercooler piping, not samco rubber piping?
could you creat a open loop turbo system if you got it chipped, cuase i like the sound of the B.O.V
and is there any little tricks to increase hp

it seems to me like these cars are highley contolled by the ecu am i right?

yeah, you could do 20 if you want, thats getting up there though for day to day use, more boost = more wear. No problem if you're only doing it on occasion. Chip the car, and buy/build a boost machine. Pretty much an adjustable N75 valve. Check out www.modshack.info. Def yes on the FMIC if you're gonna run more boost. Stick with the closed loop, you're sacrificing performance for sound, and thats not cool.

when you say a boost maching what do you do. would it just be easier to get a boost controller? the apr chip system says its capable of changing modes, so you can get say 2 or 3 modes and acctually, within the car, change and tune the car, enough to change and tune it for a race at like 15 psi for a minute then change it back to stock boost? sounds really easy and a good part to have on your car. any feed back

What is the stock boost?, can the engine run 20stock when i chip it?

Stock Boost levels range between 9-11 psi and our engine can handle up to about 23 psi before major engine internals need to be replaced (titanium gaskets, forged internals, etc.)

Are there forged internals i can buy somewhere?

Yes, 1.8T forged internals are readily availible mostly anywhere.

Should i get a boost controller or chip it?

Both, once chipped you'll notice an increase in boost but a controller would help if you have say APR and dont want to run as much boost on crappy weather days.

How do you like the borla exhaust?

From what I hear Borla is an ok exhaust offering good sound and medium performance. Personally I prefer GHL exhaust. GHL Exhaust

Is a front mount intercooler worth it?

Definitly this is a must for stage 3 cars and gives you around 30 hp

Is there hard(metal) intercooler piping, not samco rubber piping?

Im sure there is but why would you want to add all the weight of piping when samco does the same performance and weighs less.

Could you create a open loop turbo system if you got it chipped, cuase i like the sound of the B.O.V?

Our engines dont recommend a BOV setup. There are plenty of posts explaining why. Just get a Stratmosphere Diverter valve (Stratmosphere DV) and a high flow intake filter and you will be able to hear the woosh just like a BOV.

And is there any little tricks to increase hp?

Use well recommended performance parts not just any ol exhaust or intake or diverter valve, etc.

So are you saying that a FMIC will give any ar 30 more hp or is that with the stage III upgrade? I have a GIAC chip and 2.5 Borla exhaust, would a FMIC give me 30 more and is that at the wheels?

Now, you could crank your boost up to get 30 hp, and the FMIC would help reduce temps from the added boost, but if you're asking if you can just put a FMIC on a car, and get 30 hp, no, you can't do that : )

Interesting fact: Rule of thumb is, for every 10 degrees of heat lost, you gain 1hp. To get 30 hp from a FMIC alone, you'd need to reduce temps 300 degrees.

Default RE: number of questions!

I live in Augusta, GA and though it is the 2nd biggest city in GA it is still a small town city so there are not any good places for tunning import cars. I was going to use a manufactured boost controller from the store but they later said that an Audi tt cant run it because of whatever with the car. So my questions is after seeing all these forums, can I use a boost machine on my TT without disrupting any other functions? I was told by these same people that I am currently running 16 - 13 -16 psi and about 210 or so whp. I just have a GIAC chip, 2.5 full exhaust, CAI, and diverter. Sound right to you guys? So if I can use a boost machine what psi would be a good safe level for every day driving? Thanks.

Steve

Oh I was also told that raising your boost 1 psi is about 10 -13 hp?
