Octane level
I realize that my 2001 180 TT requires 91 octane or higher but with gas prices rising will I hurt my engine if I start using 87? Some poeple say the 1.8T engine NEEDS 91 or higher but then others say I will just lose some power. What are the thoughts from the group? Thanks!
i use 91 only, i put 87 in once and it ran like crap, since then i have only put 91, $3.00 a gallon sucks but you new that when you bought the car, you will more likely have problems with the fuel system in the long run if you use 87.
basically the lower the octane, the lower MPG and juice(power)
i have really noticed a differnece in mpg between 89 and 91, almost like gitting one gallon for free, but hardly any power increase
i havent used 87 in my audi ever, but i'd imagine it would be shitty. i used to use it in my deathmachine cars and i def noticed a power loss and big drop in mpg compared to even 89.

becarefull of airports. The 101 octane or AVGAS as it is referred to is leaded gas, and it can jack up your CAT and a few other components of the car. Ask around, do you have a race track around your town. I am willing to bet that there are shops that sell "race gas". There are several here in Phoenix, all they way up to 109 Octane.
