oil change intervals

oil change intervals
When I bought my TT back in October it had 23K miles on it. The guy I bought it from said he took it to the dealership for all of it's scheduled maintenance, and the dealership (Fred Lavery in B'ham MI.) gave me copies of all the service invoices. To make a long story short, I see that all the oil changes, etc were done by the dealer. Now I've got about 28k on the car and I'm wondering when I should get an oil change. Should I rely on the car telling me via a dashlight or something? Or is it due (or overdue)? Also mineral Vs. Mobil one - What's everybody using?

RE: oil change intervals
Well, personally I change my Oil every 3000 miles or 3 months whatever comes first. You can possibly stretch the interval especially with Synthetic Oil but it depends on your driving conditions and the environment you live in.
Also there has been a service bulletin out by Audi that states only to use Synthetic Oil in the TT because of excessive sludge build up
with Dyno Oil which has been known to cause premature engine failure. So ONLY use Synthetic!!!! My brand of choice is good old
Mobil One either 5W30 or the European Formula 0W40 (which is what Porsche and BMW put in their cars from the factory)

RE: oil change intervals
Thanks for the info RE: oil type. I've been a synthetic fan for a while so that's a no-brainer. And as if on cue the dashboard countdown has begun. When I fired her up this morning she told me 1200 miles to service. That will put me at about 30k miles, so I'm sure that means oil change and ?? Everything is working great (except that pesky rattle in the vent) I figure this one time I'll take it to the dealership that's been taking care of it up to now, unless the're going to charge me 300 bucks to change the oils and wiggle the tie rods. What should I expect at 30,000 mile service?

RE: oil change intervals
Not sure what they will check at the 30k service. I am sure Oil change and filter, check all fluid levels, brake fluid change would be in order, check pads and rotors. I would have them change spark plugs but I think it isn't an issue until the 40k service.
Good Luck and have fun with your TT
