Default problems with 00 180 fwd

Hi, I don't expect this to solve my problem but I'm trying just in case anyone has ever had a similar problem. I bought my tt 180 fwd a couple of months ago wit 54k on it. Right away I had the ultimate timing belt kit installed. Abought about a month ago I started feeling minor vibrations on the gas pedal when accelerating in gears. For example, right after switching into 2nd, under accel it would vib a lil on the pedal and u can feel the car shake a little bit and it would be fine then the same thing happens from 3rd, 4th, and 5th. I tohught it was the clutch going bad so I was going to wait a little before replacing it. Tonight it was very cold here in Long Island, NY. The usual vibration was there but this time the check engine light came on. Has anyone had a similar problem, could these two things be related? If lets say it was the clutch, would it trigger a cel? I am going to autozone first thing in the morning to have the code(s) pulled but right now I'm just owrried and its bothering the hell out of me. Thanks in advance for any help/input. -mike

My guess is that it is your coilpacks. You need to use VAG-COM or a code scanner to get the codes off the ECU or go to Autozone and have them check the codes related to your CEL. Post them back here.

ok, I didnt get a chance to goto a shop today due to class/work etc but I did get to swing by autozone. The code that was pulled was P0304-4th cyl. is misfiring. I will get the car to a shop this weekend which is the earliest I can do it. Do you guys think it will be ok to drive for now? Also are there very common little problems that can cause this? And in the worst case scenario what could it be and $$? Thanks again in advance guys.

You can replace the coilpack yourself. You can pick them up online from ECStuning.com or TTstuff.com for around $25. Just pick up a couple and do the work yourself. All you need is a 5mm Hex drive and a 10mm socket. They go bad from time to time because of the way the sit inside the head, the intense heat can cause them to break down. I always keep a couple of spares on hand for quick replacement. ECStuning sells a 4-pack for around $120.

It's not the best idea to keep driving around with a misfiring cylinder, you are dumping unburnt fuel into your catalytic converters which will in short order crap them up.

swap the 4th cylinder (drivers side) to somewhere else, reset the battery, andthen take it back and get scanned again to see if it is the coilpack. Plus coilpacks are not very expensive and will take you 5min to install.

Could also be a fouled plug, mileage is about right. Try what Cincy said and see if the misfire moves with the coilpack, if it doesnt, buy a set of plugs.

I would try the plug first, its cheeper, then try the coilpack but thats just my two cents...
