Default removing turbo

I figured today would be a good dayto go ahead and change out my turbo. I looked at a few DIY's done on jetta's and golf's and it seemed easy enough. After I put it on the lift I realized it's not quite the same as a quattro and I can barely see the turbo let alone get to it. So for anyone that has done it how do you get to it, and what all needs to be removed to get to it?Its a 180 by the way.

Keep in mind that that's a K04-001. It's a K03s housing with a K04 compressor. A K04-020 would require swapping the downpipe and manifold, plus perhaps oil lines?

Swapping turbos isnt that hard. 90% of the work is done from the top. The only hard part is removing and reinstalling the tip if you are by yourself. Also, make sure you have the return line on the turbobefore you reinstall the turbo.

I imagine us FWD guys would have it easier too. Looking at it from the bottom it seems fairly accessible once the axle is outta the way.

You dont have the drop the axle in any way. You just remove the manifold from the top and then remove the turbo and yank it out the top also. The only stuff you need to do from underneith is undo part of the dp, unbolt the bolt holding the turbo in place, unbolt the tip, and finally drain and remove the coolent and oil return lines to where they meet the block.

Hey guys, I'm doing a turbo swap today and I'm stuck at the bolt that's holding the turbo down. I think it goes to the support part. I have the hardest time getting to that bold. Anyone have an idea? I have everything else removed.

Default 225 quattro turbo install

the FWD cars are not too bad, done my 01 jetta turbo, downpipe changes for on and off road in 1 hr, everyone says subframe needs to be dropped on the 225Q just for a new downpipe, can a replacement turbo be done without dropping the subframe on these cars aswas stated for the 180Q above

Nothing needs removed like the manifold to do this. It took me a while to figure it out getting it out, but I had the new one in in under 4 hrs and on the ground running. Best tip I can give you is get a mirror (hand mirror hair salons use) and prop it up on the little lip that the brake line sits in running across the firewall. I have some pics if you want to show some of the process
